Details: Job:  HIMS & Health Informatics CPC REQUIRED DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS1.  Codes and enters hospital charge information (Evaluation and Management, Diagnostic, Surgical procedures, modifiers) in the practice management system - from paper submission or electronic charge capture method, or both.2.  Proofs and corrects charge summaries on a daily basis to ensure proper coding techniques, accuracy, and to maximize reimbursement.3.  Conducts audits for missed charges and records information. Ensures all billing information is entered correctly and in a timely manner, to maximize reimbursement4.   Tracks physicians' and PA's time units.5.  Remains current in CPT, ICD-9, and HCPCS knowledge for coding cardiovascular procedures (Evaluation and Management, Diagnostic, Surgical, & modifiers ).6.  Delete and re-key processOTHER DUTIES7.  Processes/handles Hospital Charge Audit received from Office Managers - by the end of each month.8.  Identify/Notify Supervisor of negative trends/patterns related to incoming workload - promptly.9.  Stays current with changes in reimbursement regulations with contracted insurance plans, as well as Medicare, to minimize appeals and denials. As well as federal legislative changes that affect outcomes.10.  Participates in the implementation of changes and/or new department procedures under the direction of supervisor.11.  Adheres to all guidelines established for the Coding Section of the Business Office.12.  Attends in-service and other meetings as required.13.  Participates in educational and professional development activities.14.  Maintains confidentiality.15.  Performs other duties as assigned.RELATIONSHIPS AND INTERACTIONS:1.  Reports to Coding Compliance Supervisor2. Regularly communicates with physicians, office manager, patients, and other medical providers. Frequent interaction with other Austin Heart staff - including in and out of Business Office.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Frequent mobility and/or sitting required for extended periods of time. Some bending and stooping required. Working in office environment. Requires manual dexterity to operate keyboard, calculator, photocopy machine, faxing, and other office equipment. Requires occasional lifting up to 30 pounds of paper. Requires eyesight correctable to 20/20 to read data, policies, and computer monitor. Requires hearing within normal range for telephone usage. Requires excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Occasional high stress work may require dealing with angry or potentially violent people.TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Normal office environment. Some overtime, altered work hours may be required in order to meet billing deadlines, especially at month end.  Time off requests at month end need to be minimal, or possibly denied during month end time frames.
